After the audience profile and deciding what genre we are doing our music video on, we then began the textual analysis. Firstly starting off with album covers that in which we had to deconstruct them by pin pointing the codes and conventions of these album covers. To make sure we had a good variety of album covers to analyse.

This album cover is Ne-Yo’s latest album ‘Year of the gentlemen’. The lighting is high key this highlights the key features of the setting and the artist himself. And the bold writing of the artists name automatically draws consumers’ attention to the album cover, also the title of the album cover is in fancy writing this shows that maybe that this album is sophisticated. The artist himself is in the foreground this draws further attention to buyers, due to Ne-Yo being in the centre of the frame indicates that the album is influenced by him. How the artist is dressed symbolises him being dressed as to gentlemen which relates to the title of the album. You can not see his face which indicates mystery to the album as well.

Rihanna’s album ‘Good girl gone bad’ has the name of the artist in big and bold font across the cover indicating who the album is by and it gives the artist recognition. As it is a different colour to the rest of the album it stands out to people and it catches their eye.
Because the name of the artist is in big font this just shows that people who buy this album are buying this album because of whom the artist is which indicates that Rihanna is a well known artist in the industry.
The colour of the album is quite dark which connotes mystery and again draws attention to the artist. She is dressed in a slimming dress in a provocative position which potentially would draw even more buyers as males see her as a sexy woman who would want to be with her and females who inspire to be her.

The latest album from Akon ‘Freedom’ has a back ground setting of the ocean and a bright blue sky with nothing else in the back ground this I believe is in relation to the name of the album as it looks very peaceful and no one around in other words it looks as if the artist is free, the setting is a place where you go to gain freedom. Akon is in the foreground this indicates that he is the most important in this frame and again it connotes that the album belongs to him. He is dressed in a suit and sunglasses, how the artist is dressed reinforces power and wealth. If you look closely the name of the album is hidden in the K of Akon’s name it is hidden but yet so obvious.
X Factor winner Leona Lewis’s album ‘spirit’ is a simple but yet very meaningful album. The first
thing that is most obvious and most likely to attract customers is the picture of Leona where she looks very graceful. At the top of the cover it shows the artist’s name and at the bottom of the album it has the title of the album. The setting and how the album is portrayed is very simple, because of it being simple it makes it look rather effective. Leona’s facial expressions look endearing and she looks very persuasive which potentially lures people into it to buying it. The title of the album spirit indicates that the songs in the album may have some spiritual context to them which is why the album is called ‘spirit’.

‘Doll domination’ is Pussycat Dolls latest album which has been proven to have sold millions that in which have given the Pussycat Dolls further recognition. The five girls are sat on motor bikes in seductive outfits, this shows off their sexy side which male buyers would be more attracted to. All of these girls are dominating the screen as they are in the foreground looking very sensual and sexy which is in relation to the album as it is called ‘Doll domination’.
Chris Browns latest album 'Exclusive' draws the audiences attention as the artist 'Chris' stands out in the foreground in a red and black suit which contrasts with the background colours which are black and grey. The artists name is written in a bold red font which matches his shirt, Indicating that the picture is him. What is also very captivating is the title of the album as it is white and stands out against the background. What seems to be interesting is that the 'X' in the title is much bigger than the rest of the word, therefore goes to show it has a significance of why it is there, which further draws audiences attention into getting them into purchasing the album.

Having compared 6 album covers it came to my attention that they all have similarities in which they share. For example the group/artist is always in the foreground of the cover which captivates audiences into looking and buying the album, as well as the title of the album and the name of the group/artist appears to be in a different colour to make it stand out and give the artist or group recognition.
